ui_character_db is a parameter file contains information about all the characters in the game.

It allows you to edit the ID of a character, the numbers of slots available, which icon should be displayed on the CSS and which number is assigned to a costume.

Fields[]

Here is a list of what each sub-entry contained in an entry is associated to.

Please note that some of the entries have yet to be discovered.

Entry Description Notes
0 Cosmetic ID The CSS image that will show for the character. This is the portrait you click on to select your character.
2 Playable Character If set to 1, the character will become a valid playable character on the CSS.
4 Character Series Icon The series icon that will show on the character selection panel.
5 Has Victory Data If set to 0, it will default to Mario's winning narration and images.
6 Character ID Refer to the Character ID list below.
7 Costume Slots Number of costume slots. The maximum is 255.
9 Do Not Show on CSS If set to 1, it will not show on the CSS, even if Playable Character is set to 1.
10 Is a DLC character If set to 1, the character will be treated as a DLC character, and be sorted after non-DLC characters.
13 CSS Position The CSS Position of the character. Note that it is relative to the "group" the character is in (Non-DLC, DLC, All Miis, and Random are groups.)
21-36 Icon ID for Costume Slot When set, it looks for chr_10_CHARACTER_XX.nut, where CHARACTER is the name of the character, and XX is the value.
37-52 Selection Name & Battle Name for Costume Slot When set, it looks for chrn_11_CHARACTER_XX.nut, where CHARACTER is the name of the character, and XX is the value. It then looks for the corresponding value in melee.msbt.

Things to Know[]

The character entries may very well not link up with the actual names of the characters, as some of them have different names in Japan. Ex. Robin being "Reflet", and Jigglypuff being "Purin".

Adding CSS slots past 16 will not allow you to edit the slot's CSN, CBN, and CSS Icon. Slots past 16 will also break replays. They will still function in game.
